We got our first significant snow of the winter and I am so excited to finally be able to get some photographs! This is the first real snow we have had since last February and the three prior snow shower events came and went so quickly that all was melted before pictures could be taken. Winter storm Hercules arrived yesterday, reaching its full potential by evening, and exited this morning. It is 16 degrees outside with a wind chill of -2 and we are blanketed under 12 inches of glorious snow. With the help of a zoom lens I was able to take some photos from the small cleared area we have under our protected overhang.

It's is a amazing how the snow can come and go so quickly. Just yesterday we were preparing for blizzard like conditions and now we are blanketed in snow and the sun is out and shining in the blue sky. It is way too cold to be outside but from the window the snow glistens in the sunlight and there is a peaceful stillness. Winter storm Hercules is long gone and we are warm and cozy inside. ReplyDeleteI love the winter snow photo days and get so excited when we have our first storm. It gets old by the end of February and then I can't wait for spring to arrive but I do love the different seasons. Glad this brought back memories for you!
DeleteYup. Looks the same here and there's more snow coming Monday. I heard JFK airport was shut down this morning. You guys really did get a good blast. I know we're supposed to live in the moment but I'd rather live in a summer moment :)
ReplyDeleteWe did get quite a bit of snow and they shut down the expressway and parkways as well so they could plow and keep people off the streets. I'd rather live in the summer moment as well but for now photographing the snow is nice when it first comes down.

ReplyDeleteI feel for you. Luckily we haven't been getting our major snow storms until January and February but by the end of the winter I am so ready for spring! The snow is so beautiful though and as a photography enthusiast I was longing to get some new winter photos! We got enough snow for photos and then some!

ReplyDeleteit did come and go quickly, i prefer snow during the day, when i can watch it!! i will speak to mother nature about that ;)
We had the snow all day and by nine o'clock at night it really picked up. By the next morning we were blanketed and it was time to bring out the camera! It is way too cold to be outside here but I love using the zoom lens to capture the photos. The snow is glistening like crystals in the sunlight today. I loved your photos of the birds and snow!

DeleteWow, Lee! What a lot of snow! It is 3 degrees here right now. It is supposed to be so cold tomorrow, that school in my city has been canceled for the day. I wish it would go ahead and snow as long as we are staying inside.

Hi Sue. The snow was pretty while it lasted so I am glad to have gotten some photos. It poured all day today and the snow is all gone. Now we have record freezing temperatures of 0 degrees F, a chill factor of -15 and 50 mph winds in the forecast for tomorrow...brrr.

DeleteIt is only early January and already we have had lots of snow and freezing temperatures. It does have its beauty though as your pictures demonstrate.

DeleteYour enthusiasm is contagious! It's so fun when folks who haven't had much snow, get some--it reignites the child-like viewpoint. We haven't had fresh snow for quite a while, but thankfully we had quite a bit on the ground to protect the plants during the polar vortex. Great photos, Lee!
ReplyDeleteIt was fun Beth...running out there with my camera after waiting for the first snow scene for some time. It does bring back childhood memories of snow angels and building snowmen. I am longing for spring though (my favorite time of year) and can't wait to get back out into the garden!
DeleteOur snows have come and gone two - maybe even three times - this winter. Temperatures varying from minus 20 and windy! to 50 degrees and raining. What a winter.
